ROUND 4/JULY 13, 2014 MAZDA RACEWAY LAGUNA SECA/MONTEREY, CALIFORNIA P96 AMA DAYTONA SPORTBIKE SERIES DAYTONA SPORTBIKE BY ANDREA WILSON PHOTOGRAPHY BY BRIAN J. NELSON AND ANDREA WILSON H ard work and persistence pays off. And in racing it doesn't hurt to add put- ting your head down and not looking back, which is exactly what Meen Yamaha's Jake Lewis did to take his first career AMA Daytona SportBike win at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. "I was sitting on the grid and just thinking I'm going to win this race," Lewis said. "Because last year I was so close to winning; I've been so close to winning. I got off to a good start, went into the lead in turn two and never looked back. That's been my weakness throughout my career, just looking back. So I just put my head down, stayed focused and just clicked off lap after lap and got in a good rhythm and brought home the win." And the victory is all that sweeter after all the hard work the 18-year-old from Kentucky has been putting in to get that first SportBike win in his sopho- more season. Jake Lewis celebrates his first-career victory in the Daytona SportBike class. JAKE LEWIS GETS HIS FIRST DAYTONA SPORTBIKE WIN AT LAGUNA SECA FIRST TIMER
