Beaubier could see his team-
mate coming back to him a bit
and he got inspired, but it was
too little too late.
"I saw Josh kind of struggling
with his rear tire a little bit and
saw that I was suddenly closing
up, but I wasn't going to be able
to catch him by the end of the
race."
The Rise Of Hayden
If Beaubier was coming off a cou-
ple of confidence sapping races
so too was Hayden. But things
turned around for the Yoshimura
Suzuki rider at Laguna and he
ended up a solid third after find-
ing some options on bike set-up
that made the GSX-R1000 much
better come race time. Hayden
came in with some chatter and
left with that issue resolved. At
the end of the day the youngest
of the Hayden clan was on the
podium and smiling again, his
confidence restored.
Hayden had started third be-
hind his teammate in the race
and that turned into fourth when
Beaubier finally came past both
of them. But when Cardenas
made a mistake in the Cork-
screw, Hayden struck. That put
him third. Not content with that,
he put his head down to see if he
could make a dent in the gap to
Beaubier, who suddenly didn't
seem so invincible.
"Once I got by him, my lap
times got faster and faster and
faster and with seven laps to go
