MOTOGP MOTOGP WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP ROUND 9/JULY 13, 2014 SACHSENRING CIRCUIT/SACHSENRING, GERMANY P76 AEGERTER'S FIRST There was a pattern to Moto2 quali- fying – Marc VDS Kalex rider Mika Kallio dominating, then carXpert Suter- mounted Dominique Aegerter blazing through at the end for a maiden pole position. The same pattern repeated in the race, for the Swiss rider's maiden race win. Aegerter led lap one, Kallio took over and Jordi Torres briefly took over second next time round, but by lap four Simone Corsi was ahead of the Spaniard, and the first two were already pulling clear. They went on like this for the rest of the race; Aegerter poised on Kallio's back wheel, seldom more than half-a- second adrift. The showdown started with three laps to go, when the Suter rider finally pounced to lead over the line for the first time. Kallio counter-attacked at once… too soon, he later admitted. His attempted escape on the penulti- mate lap came to naught as Aegerter closed again, and he pounced for a second and final time into turn 12 after getting a flying drive onto the Waterfall. There was just .091 of a second in it over the line. Corsi had led a four-bike battle for second, then Rabat took over again with 10 laps to go. It looked as though he might escape, but the Italian pegged him back to retake the last rostrum place on the final lap. Close behind, Moto3 champion Maverick Vinales finally prevailed over impressively persistent rookie Franco Morbidelli. Alex de Angelis crashed out after losing ground in the next pack. By the end Randy Krummenacher snatched Andrea Ianonne was the top Ducati in fifth.
