AMA PRO SUPERBIKE SERIES SUPERBIKE BY PAUL CARRUTHERS PHOTOGRAPHY BY BRIAN J. NELSON T here's little doubt that there will eventually be a passing of the baton in AMA Su- perbike racing with veteran Josh Hayes giving way to his hugely talented young teammate Cam- eron Beaubier. Hayes knows it, Beaubier knows it and the rest of us know it. But that time might just be a little farther down the road than the majority of us thought because Hayes doesn't seem to be in a giving mood of late – and that was most definite- ly the case at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. Instead of giving way, Hayes seized his fourth race win in a row and his fifth of the season, padding his points lead and adding a big, bold exclama- tion mark to the story of the 2014 season: Back off kid, the old man ain't done yet! Hayes was impressive on the racetrack in the hills east of the Monterey Peninsula, winning a red-flag shortened race flag to flag and crossing the finish line with over three seconds in hand. Yes, Beaubier was second, but ROUND 4/JULY 13, 2014 MAZDA RACEWAY LAGUNA SECA/MONTEREY, CALIFORNIA P86 It's Still Mine JOSH HAYES CONTINUES TO SHOW WHO IS BOSS WITH HIS FIFTH WIN OF THE SEASON
