RUSSELL INJURED
F
ormer World and AMA Superbike Champion Scott Russell
crashed his motocross bike at Perris Raceway early last week
and suffered broken ribs, a lacerated spleen, a collapsed lung and
an injured knee.
"I'm pretty beat up," Russell said from the hospital. "But I'm gon-
na live."
Russell was taking part in a new model introduction for an Arai
motocross helmet when the accident happened.
"My hand just slipped off the bar and the track was real loamy
and I just stuck," the 1993 World Superbike Champion said. "I'll
be out of here tomorrow."
Russell was scheduled to take part in Kawasaki's 30th anniversa-
ry of the Ninja this weekend at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca while
attending the World Superbike round on the Monterey Peninsula.
He was disappointed at not being able to make the Laguna race.
Since he couldn't fly for a month, Russell ended up driving back
to his Georgia home last week.
