seven laps. He eventually took
the win with eight-plus seconds
to spare over Honda rider Dare
Demartile and Surratt, who got
off to a 13
th
-place start.
Kelley ran fourth the whole
way, while Zach Peddie rounded
out the top five.
>>Whipple Wins It
In the Women 12+ class, it looked
to be another Big Bear for Team
Green after Brandy Richards ran
away with the first-moto victory
over Honda rider Brook Whipple
and Rachel Combs. But it wasn't
to be.
In the second moto, Richards
grabbed the holeshot but was
called back to the starting line a
lap later after a rider had crashed
on the downhill and was slow to
her feet, forcing a re-start. Rich-
ards again got off to a fast start
but pulled off the track one lap in
after twisting her knee. She was
in too much pain to continue.
Riding a Suzuki RM85, Han-
nah Hodges took over and ran
away with the second-moto vic-
tory. Unfortunately for her, she
was earlier involved in a multi-rid-
er pileup in Mammoth's infamous
tree turn in the first moto and
ended up fifth. Her 5-1, however,
did give her second overall.
The Big Bear trophy ended up
going to the consistent and fast
Whipple who hails from Washing-
ton. Riding a Honda, she went
2-2 after holding back Rachel
Combs in both motos.
The Mammoth Motocross also
hosted a round of the Women's
MX Championship which was
again won by Yamaha's Macken-
zie Tricker. She led every lap of
both motos for the win, while Ma-
rissa Markelon took second over-
all with a 2-2. Third overall went
to Britney Gallegos (KTM) with a
4-4. CN
Sean Cantrell claimed the
Supermini 1 Championship.
