CN III VOICES L E T T E R S T O T H E E D I T O R "I have a feeling the Americans might give him a bit of a surprise." Coming To America Jeffrey Herlings coming to Unadilla to race should be interesting. This guy dominates in Europe. Might be the world's fastest in the sand. A couple of years ago he lapped all the Americans in the sand at the MX des Nations: Ryan Dung- ey, Justin Barcia and Blake Baggett. Might be a different story at Unadilla though. Terry Heath Via Facebook Coming To America II The announcement that Jeffrey Herlings is going to come to the U.S. to race at Unadilla is good news. That will bring plen- ty of interest to the race to see how the likes of Blake Baggett, Jeremy Martin, Cooper Webb, Justin Bogle and Dean Wilson will fare against the man many believe to be the fastest 250 rider in the world. I have a feel- ing the Americans might give him a bit of a surprise. The second part of the an- nouncement on Herlings, how- ever, was a bit odd. He's going to stay in the MX2 class instead of moving up to race Antonio Carioli in the big class. That doesn't make much sense to me. I guess KTM knows what they're doing with the kid and he is only 19. Time will tell. George McMillan Via the Internet Not A Happy Camper II I agree with Paul McKendry (Voices, Issue 26, July 1) that top level motorcycle racing in the USA desperately needs more support from TV. Better management from organizers. A true Open Class for the brav- er souls out there. Something, anything, to help us get back to being able to start small at the club level, and work up to the international stage. But then Paul says that F-1, Indy, WEC and sports car GT are all neutered down produc- tion machines with less power than their street counterparts. Really? F-1 says the cars must weigh a minimum of 1522 pounds with the driver, they get a max of 600 horsepower from a tur- bocharged 1.6L V-6, directed through an eight-speed paddle- shifted transmission, using a kinetic energy recovery system to increase braking power while charging a battery/capacitor and electric motor network which adds 180 horsepower to increase corner exit speeds…. Maybe I should have pushed the "red button" while test- driving that Prius? Jim Sweazy Glendale, AZ Harley's Man Behind The Scenes I worked with Ralph Berndt (Archives, Issue 26, July 1) and what a smart person he was. He was a mentor and a great person as was his wife, Car- roll. When Ralph went to work she pulled down the race bike so he could do whatever he needed to do for the next race. He also did some testing on public roads in Merrill, as the local police would shut down a road for him and Carroll Re- sweber to do some testing and adjusting. Ralph was a wealth of knowl- edge and a great friend. Richard Foshey Via Facebook Letters to the editor can be sent to voices@cyclenews.com.
