he World Superbike Cham-
pionship weekend took
place against the backdrop
of the FIFA World Cup going on
in faraway Brazil, a country where
they also speak Portuguese.
There had been many draws in
this edition of the World Cup,
games decided on by penalties,
but there was a screaming own
goal for two of the top names in
the World Superbike Champion-
ship in Portimao - in the most dra-
matic way possible.
For Kawasaki's champion-
ship leader Tom Sykes and Pata
Honda's Jonathan Rea it was
one win, countered by one dis-
