MONSTER ENERGY MAMMOTH MOTOCROSS
VOL. 51 ISSUE 27 JULY 8, 2014 P75
>>Busy Week
As usual, the busy week of racing
begins with the "old" guys getting
the mountain all to themselves.
The Vet weekend is usually high-
lighted by racers most of us have
already heard of, racers like
Doug Dubach, Michael LaPaglia,
Timmy Weigand, Michael Sleet-
er, Jeff Ward and even pro skier
Daron Rahlves who all earned
number-one "Bear" trophies by
the end of the weekend. Even
race-team owner Carey Hart,
and his wife Pink, made the trek
to Mammoth. Hart had a good
time, finishing ninth overall in Sat-
urday's 30 Pro class.
But probably the busiest
couple of days of racing during
the week was the Mini Racing
segment, which always takes
place Tuesday and Wednesday.
Like with the Vet weekend, rac-
ers compete both days for daily
"Bear" championships and for
overall "Big Bear" AMA Champi-
onships (their combined overall
finishes for both days).
Perhaps the single busiest day
of the entire week, however, is
Thursday's big-bike open prac-
tice, which saw rare wet and
rainy conditions, otherwise the
week was dominated by sun-
shine, warm temperatures and,
at times, wind.
Big-bike racing started on Fri-
day with the Open, Schoolboy,
25+ and Women 12+ classes,
followed by Saturday's 250, Two-
Stroke and College Boy racing.
The event wrapped up on Sun-
day with the 450 and 250 B/C-
Austin Forkner
won six of
eight motos in
the Supermini
class and came
away with the
Supermini 2
Championship.
