My Own Race:
7 JORDAN ASHBURN 4TH PLACE O/A
Being fairly close to his home in Tennessee, N-Fab/Am Pro
Yamaha's Jordan Ashburn made the trip north to Indiana in
what was his first visit to the Interlake SRA. Unfortunately
for him, he missed the podium with his fourth-place finish
after getting off the line poorly. "It was a pretty tough day;
there wasn't much you could do with it," he said. "I knew
a good start was going to be pretty crucial and I didn't get
a good start. I just kind of rode in fourth all day. There was
no making up any time. Any time you'd make up some time,
you'd fall or blow a berm out or something. I fell a couple
times just because the front end washed out in the powder.
It was a tough day all around, really."
412 MARK HERESCO 1ST PRO 2/
5TH PLACE O/A
What Paul Whibley is to the Pro division, Mark Heresco is
to Pro 2: undefeated through four rounds aboard his SRT
Off-road/Kenda/Clockwork KTM 250 XC. "I think I caught
up to Adam Bonneur in the Pro 1 class, and that makes you
feel real good—catching someone you know they're going
faster and you know they're out there with the big boys.
When you come up and you see them putting along, that
was good stuff there."
27 CODY BOLLINGER 2ND PRO 2/
7TH PLACE O/A
"Dust was awful out here and the track got real rough so I'm
happy with second. We rode it smart and came away with
second," Lakewood Electric/Fun Mart Cycles/Parents
YZ250-mounted Cody Bollinger said.
85 DREW HIGGINS 3RD PRO 2/
8TH PLACE O/A
Though most competitors found it impossible to pass, SMS
Racing/Silkolene/Moose Racing KTM 250 SX-mounted
Drew Higgins somehow battled back from a first-turn pile-
up to earn third Pro 2 in his first OMA of the year. "I fol-
lowed some guys to the roads and made a few passes on
the roads and took a few different lines, but I had to follow
fourth or fifth [place] most of the time because they were
kicking up too much dust," he said. "I had to wait on them
to crash or pit to get around them. I caught third on the last
lap and passed him then just rode in."
217 RACHEL GUTISH 2ND LITE A
With no GNCCs or EnduroCross races this weekend and
being only an hour and a half from home, FMF/RPM Rac-
ing Team/Maxxis KTM's Rachel Gutish made her first OMA
appearance of the year and ended up leading Lite A until
the last lap when Mark Kern got around her. She stayed
right on his back fender to end up just two seconds out of
first place. "We had a really good race at the end and I had
a blast! It was fun to come to a race where I didn't have to
worry about series or points or beating the other women. It
was just, 'Hey, I'll come out here and if I do well, fabulous.
If not, who cares?' If we have another off weekend, I'd love
to do another OMA race. I raced these so much as a kid, it
kind of sucks not being able to come back and do more of
them. If I can convince my dad and we have an off week-
end, I'll definitely be at the Moose Run." Of course, that'll
be just before she's expecting to leave for Argentina as a
member of Team USA's Women's Trophy Team.
