OFF ROAD PARTS UNLIMITED OFF-ROAD MOTORCYCLE AND ATV NATIONALS ROUND 4/JULY 6, 2014 INTERLAKE STATE RECREATION AREA/LYNNVILLE, INDIANA P114 KTM's Jason Thomas a further 58 seconds back for third on the day. Whibley got underway the quickest when the green flag waved and whipped his Kenda/ MSR/Monster Energy-backed YZ450F around the first turn first to claim the $100 FMF Holeshot Award with Fahringer in hot pursuit. "I knew the holeshot was go- ing to be really important so I was kind of focusing on that," Whibley said. "I knew it was go- ing to be hard to get past [any- one in the dust]." When Fahringer got close enough to challenge early in the race, Whibley took advantage of his position and fended off the attack to maintain control of the race to the end. Bell Helmets/FMF/Moose Racing TE 300-mounted Fah- ringer said, "I kind of took a little break from riding for the last week—I needed it! "There's not a lot of room for passing out here, and the dust made that impossible so your holeshot order was pretty much what you'd get." Stillwell Performance/Fun Mart Cycles/MotorcycleSu- perstore.com's Thomas made a few quick passes early after getting left on the line when his bike balked at starting. But third was as far as he could go, la- menting, "You couldn't get any closer in the dust." Whibley's teammate Jordan Ashburn had the same issue, dust making him leery of diving into Thomas' wake so he settled for fourth with Pro 2 winner Mark Heresco almost six minutes be- hind but fifth overall. Pro Adam Bonneur, Pro 2 rid- ers Cody Bollinger, Drew Hig- gins and Jake Fromen, and Pro Steve Leivan rounded out the top 10 overall. CN (Top left) Mark Heresco (third from left) barely avoided a first- turn crash that left Spencer Burke (268) and Drew Higgins (85) on the ground… (Above) Sensing chaos to his in- side, eventual Pro 2 winner (for the fourth time this season) Heresco aims for the outside of the turn as Higgins goes down. Burke and his machine have already parted company… (Top right) Higgins picked himself up after this, got away at the back of the pack and carved through to third Pro 2. OVERALL 1.
