LUCAS OIL AMA PRO MOTOCROSS CHAMPIONSHIP VOL. 51 ISSUE 26 JULY 1, 2014 P73 there, but then they came my way and it kind of averaged out. We gave it all we had and that was all I can do." TOMAC IS BACK Tomac held strong in his 450-class debut to capture a pair of solid podium finishes for third overall with Canard fourth (4-4). BTO Sports KTM's Andrew Short rounded out the top five with 6-8 moto finishes. "I did what I could in both mo- tos, but I honestly couldn't ask for more in my first race back," Tomac said. "It was a great start for me in my return to the moto- cross circuit. We started off the day well with a first-place qualify- ing effort, which gave me a good spot on the start. In fact, I got the holeshot in the first moto and led for about 15 minutes but got passed by the two KTM riders at the end. "I had another solid start in the second moto and ended up in the top five at the start. I worked my way up to third and was a little bit closer to the KTM guys than I was in the first moto." MR. CONSISTENCY Up to this point in the series, Team Honda Muscle Milk's Trey Canard has been a consistent force in the attempt to break up the orange infested podium each week. Since the opening moto at Glen Helen, Canard has finished fourth place or better in each moto, despite small crashes that have sometimes kept him from finishing atop the overall po- dium. The Oklahoma-native was running a strong second behind Tomac in the first moto until a quick tip-over sent him back a few spots. His 4-4 placing put him just ahead of BTO Sport/ KTM's Andrew Short (6-8) and Soring Eagle/RCH Racing/Su- zuki's Weston Peick (10-5). While he has yet to win a moto, Canard's consistency has land- ed him just one point back from Stewart for fourth place in the championship standings. >>250 CLASS WEBB MAKES IT STICK The Yamalube/Star Racing/Ya- maha squad returned to the cen- ter of the podium once again, but this time it was North Carolina's Cooper Webb atop the talented field. After a long string of runner- up finishes, Webb finally broke through for his first career victory in the 250 class following a near 1-1 sweep. But it wasn't without a fight from former 250-class Champion Blake Baggett, who catapulted his Monster Energy/ Pro Circuit/Kawasaki to a moto- one victory after an all-out drag race where he edged out Webb by less than one second through the finish. After his impressive perfor- mance in the timed qualify- ing sessions, Valli Motorsports Yamaha's Christophe Pourcel looked to be a favorite heading into the racing portion. As the Briefly... nounced that its two-time MX2 World Champion Jeffrey Herlings (who is well on his way to a third title) will compete in the Unadilla round of the AMA National Series on August 9… Troy Lee Designs/Lucas Oil had two of its riders finish in the top 10 of the 250 class, with Cole Seely (6- 8) grabbing sixth overall and Jessy Nelson (7-10) eight overall. Blake Baggett passes Christophe Pourcel en route to second overall.
