AMSOIL AMA GRAND NATIONAL CROSS COUNTRY SERIES, PRESENTED BY MAXXIS VOL. 51 ISSUE 25 JUNE 24, 2014 P99 the first half of the day, making for an exciting podium battle. However, things quickly went sour for DuVall around lap four, and just as he broke into the overall lead on the adjusted time clock, the West Virginia-native began experiencing mechani- cal issues. DuVall attempted to troubleshoot the problem with his bike but he was unable to keep it running long enough to make it to the pit area. As a result, DuVall was forced to receive a tow back, which ended his day of racing. DuVall later commented that it might have been a fuel pump is- sue causing his bike to shut off. As the race wore on, Snow- shoe's already-grueling track conditions began to take a toll on both man and machine and the fi- nal hour became a test of mental and physical toughness. With a very impressive string of finishes already this season, N-Fab Am- Pro Yamaha's Jordan Ashburn has been on the brink of landing a break out performance in the XC1 Pro class. On Sunday, the Tennessee-native dug deep and put together the perfect combi- nation of speed, patience and perhaps a little bit of luck as he maintained a second-place po- sition for a majority of the race. Ashburn held on in the final mo- ments to capture a career best second overall at the final race before the break. "The track was so tough the last couple laps so I had to hang on," he said. "The ruts got so deep and the mud just caked in the tires so it was really slick out there," Ashburn said. "I've always really liked this place, it's kind of like home. I'm definitely going to work hard and come back from the break refreshed and ready for more podium finishes." It's been a trying season for XC1 Pro class rookie Andrew De- long who made the jump to the front row this season with an all- new bike and team behind him. While Delong saw much success as an XC2 Pro Lites front-runner, the Pennsylvania-native has ad- mittedly struggled to find his Jordan Ashburn finished a career best second.
