Marc Marquez's younger brother
Alex got his maiden victory in Grand
Prix racing at his home track and it
made history: In the 65 years of history
of the World Championship, no broth-
ers have recorded a same-day win.
Well, it looks like Marc is not the only
Marquez we will watch winning for the
next few years.
It was also the first Honda win, in the
Japanese marque's fight-back against
dominant KTM.
The race started with Marquez
escaping from the get-go, which is un-
usual in this closest class of all. Drama
behind came when Niccolo Antonelli
slammed into the tire wall in a massive
crash on the very first lap.
Right behind, Efren Vazquez, Alex
Rins, Enea Bastianini, Isaac Vinales,
Romano Fenati, Brad Binder, Nikki Ajo
and Aussie Jack Miller formed a wild
group.
Marquez The Younger quickly built
up a lead for a lonely race –three sec-
onds clear by lap 11, up to four on the
18th… a towering win. Teammate Rins,
who broke bones in his foot in a heavy
fall the day before, was out of luck, re-
tiring after three laps when his gearshift
linkage came adrift. It had been modi-
fied to take account of his injury.
Championship leader Miller was
struggling in the pursuit pack, where
no rider led for more than a few
turns. Fenati and Vazquez each tried
to escape, but in vain as the brawl
consumed them once again. It was still
anybody's race.
On the final lap Ajo was near the
front of the gang, almost highsided,
