IN THE WIND P30 he opened up a small gap when the race resumed. By the end of the race he had almost four sec- onds in hand over Yamaha's Josh Brookes. In the second race, Brookes crashed out, giving Byrne the vic- tory and his second double of the season. Byrne has now won five of the six races in the 2014 sea- son and he leads the title chase by 45 points. The two wins were his 55 th and 56 th of his British Superbike ca- reer. "I'm really, really happy with how this weekend's gone and the win in the first race was just what we needed," Bryne said. "I tried really hard at the beginning with my plan to open up a bit of a gap and then conserve the tire and control the race. That part worked, but I backed off a bit too much and the boys caught up so I had to push again. I kept my eye on the big TV screen to see what the gap was and when Josh [Brookes] closed in towards the end; I had one last dig and brought the bike home. For race two, my crew chief felt that if I could lap consistently I'd be in a good position so I tried hard from the word go and towards the end of the race I managed to build up a bit of a buffer. The last couple of laps were a bit sketchy so I was pleased to see the check- ered flag and take the win. It's very early days in the season, though, and there's a long way to go so we'll just keep doing what we're doing."
