second. Pourcel, though, was a
different story, and it wasn't until
midway into the race that Baggett
was able to drop the Frenchman
and take the lead.
Despite having to deal with lap-
pers this time around, Baggett
claimed a relatively easy win,
crossing the finish line some 16
seconds ahead of Anderson,
who had also passed Pourcel.
For sure, Baggett and his team
have found a groove and have
made huge strides in the last two
weeks. Perhaps the most striking
detail is just how relaxed Baggett
looked on the track at High Point
en route to his wins.
"The changes to the bike we've
made the last two weeks have
been crucial to the way I feel out
there and I think it shows that I'm
more comfortable on the bike
now and I'm able to ride the bike
the way I want to," said Baggett.
"I would say we've made up three
or four seconds a lap at the prac-
tice track just with suspension
changes and we've been work-
ing on the engine, too, to get the
power where we need it."
The main difference between
the bike Baggett is riding now
and the one he rode last year is
the addition of air forks.
"The air forks threw me off a
little bit, getting them where we
wanted them," said Baggett.
"We made some changes and it
helped in some areas but it kind
of hurt in other areas. So to get
it fine tuned the way you want it,
where on the big bumps it's good
and then on the little chattery
bumps it feels good and you're
able to push through it, then
that's what you're looking for."
In A Pickle
After ripping off impressive hole-
shots at the start of the season,
Jeremy Martin was a bit off the
mark at High Point, blaming
his poor jump in moto one on a
"landscaping" snafu.
"I put myself in a pickle on the
start," said Martin. "I was prep-
ping my gate for the start and
when it was time for the parade
lap I noticed my gate didn't go
down all the way; I guess I dug
out around it too much. So on the
start my front wheel hit the gate
and kind of popped up and I did
a wheelie."
Still, Martin was third at the end
of lap one, and moved around
Pourcel on lap four to take sec-
