place, he just couldn't latch on to
the two KTMs ahead of him and
settled for third.
Even though he finished a
spot down in fourth in the sec-
ond moto, he might have ridden
even better than he did in the first
moto. He rounded the first lap in
13th but eventually worked his
way into fifth, passing riders like
Josh Grant, Andrew Short, Jake
Weimer, Malcolm Stewart and
Brett Metcalfe along the way.
His final victim was his team-
mate Justin Barcia for fourth and
he was even pressuring an im-
proved James Stewart for third
when the checkered flag came
out. As his results have shown
so far, Canard is unquestionably
the third-best rider in the 450
class right now. But he wants to
be the best.
"We made some changes for
the second moto and that was
such a big help," Canard said.
"I was kind of bummed with my
start, got tangled with a couple of
riders and was way back. I was
really upset, but I was just doing
the best I could. I was just com-
fortable and having fun. I'm not
the kind of guy that wants to put
you on the ground [regarding a
bumping incident with Metcalfe],
but at the same time, I want to
beat you, that's what we're all
trying to do. I got more comfort-
able as the race went on. I was
pretty miserable in the first moto,
but we made some changes to
the bike's ride height, couple of
clickers here and there, and it
made a world of difference for
the second moto."
Better, But…
Yoshimura Suzuki's James Stew-
art improved two positions from
his disappointing sixth overall at
Glen Helen, but he was hoping
for more at Hangtown. The team
came into Hangtown saying that
the Glen Helen opener was just
a "miss." They were off on their
suspension settings, had some
bad luck on the track and just
couldn't get going, but they were
expecting to be better prepared
for Hangtown and they were, but
For the second
week in a row,
Jeremy Martin
ran away from a
