ROUND 6/JUNE 1, 2014
MUGELLO CIRCUIT/MUGELLO, ITALY

Iannone was working wonders
on the Ducati, but the bike has
weaknesses, and he succumbed
not only to Pol Espargaro with two
laps to go, but also to Dovizioso's
factory Ducati on the last lap, to
finish seventh.
"We have to be happy with
that," said Dovi. "We were faster
than last year, but our problem is
still the same."
Go & Fun Honda's Alvaro Bau-
tista was a downbeat and lonely
eighth, wondering why his unique-
ly Showa-suspended factory-
class Honda went well enough
for a rostrum in France, but badly
here, with no major changes.
NGM Forward Yamaha's
Aleix Espargaro managed to
outdistance his erstwhile rivals
for ninth; Yonny Hernandez's
Pramac Ducati and wild card
Michele Pirro's Ducati had the
speed if not the handling to pre-
vail over a trio of open-class Hon-
da RCV1000Rs, with Karel Abra-
ham heading Scott Redding and
Hiro Aoyama, in close order.
NGM Forward Yamaha's Colin
Edwards took the last point, un-
troubled by the PBM-ART bikes of
Michael Laverty and Broc Parkes;
with Michel di Meglio two sec-
onds behind the Australian. Hec-
tor Barbera and Ioda ART replace-
ment Michel Fabrizio both retired.
Marquez now has a two-race
advantage, while Rossi has
moved up to second overall, 150-
97, with Pedrosa third on 96.
Lorenzo and his 65 points has
leapfrogged to fourth, ahead of
Dovizioso, the Ducati rider on 63
points. CN
