LUCAS OIL AMA PRO MOTOCROSS CHAMPIONSHIP
ROUND 2/MAY 31, 2014
PRAIRIE CITY OHV PARK/RANCHO CORDOVA, CALIFORNIA

trailing fast starters Brett Metcal-
fe, Jake Weimer and Justin Bar-
cia off the start, and after some
back and forth jostling between
Metcalfe and Barcia for the lead,
Roczen pulled the trigger and
passed Weimer, then Metcalfe
and Barcia in quick succession
for the lead. Dungey, however,
wasn't as fortunate.
"I basically passed Metcalfe
and Barcia in pretty much the
same point; after that, I had a
clear track," Roczen said. "That
makes it a lot easier."
By the time Dungey had gotten
around Weimer, Barcia and Met-
calfe, which wasn't all that much
after his teammate did, Roczen
had already sprinted away, open-
ing up a small lead over Dungey
that the Glen Helen winner could
never pull back. In fact, he actu-
ally lost ground on the German in
the remaining 12 (of 16) laps.
As he had done in the first moto
at Hangtown, Roczen rode a bril-
liant race, hitting all his lines, nev-
er making a mistake, and going
on to take a double-moto sweep,
just like he did last year here in the
250 class. He took the checkered
flag some 11 seconds ahead of
Dungey, getting some retribution
on Dungey for his last-lap pass the
week before that cost Roczen the
overall victory.
"It was good today," Roczen
said. "I always like coming here
and I just had a lot of fun out there
today. The racing was good; I
was happy with my starts and just
didn't have anything to complain
about this weekend. Last week,
it's never fun leading the whole
race and getting passed with two
turns to go and Ryan [Dungey],
who is one of the strongest rid-
ers out there, just wanted it more
than me, I guess. He took it away
from me, but I have to learn from
those. I don't know, I just felt
comfortable on the bike today."
"Today was pretty good,"
Dungey said. "I got good starts
which helped out. The first and
second moto kind of played out
the same, got into second and
Kenny [Roczen] was riding really
well today. I know I can improve
in a few little areas, but overall it
wasn't too bad. It's going to be a
long year."
The way these two have ridden
Dungey (5), Metcalfe
(24), Roczen (94)
and Josh Grant (33)
fight for the second-
moto holeshot.
