doors. I got a good holeshot and
just put my head down and put in a
really good pace at the beginning
and build a gap to where I could
ride my lines and be smooth and
comfortable. It worked out for
the majority of the moto until we
caught up to lappers and once
Kenny and I caught up to lap-
pers, it was hit and miss. I would
get through them and he'd get
stuck, then I'd get stuck and he'd
get through them and he'd catch
up to me. It went like that until the
end of the moto. I'm happy with it,
we got a win, my first since 2010
[first moto at Lakewood].
"The second moto, off the
gate, James and Trey got togeth-
er and James ended up coming
over like seven lanes, hitting us,
which screwed up my start. I was
stuck in the back of the pack,
made some mistakes, and ended
up getting tangled up with anoth-

hurt or not, my shoulder was kind

badly and I'm happy with how I
rode," he added. "For me, the
win was a big building point and
stepping stone. I've been work-
ing my butt off even though the
last three years people haven't
been able to see it due to my in-
juries and so on."
DOWN UNDER
The 30-year-old Australian, Brett
Metcalfe, showed his Monster
Energy Kawasaki Team that they
made the right choice in picking
him to replace Ryan Villopoto
for the outdoor Nationals. (Villo-
poto chose to forego this year's
championship and the chance
to keep the number-one plate to
repair an old knee injury.) Met-
calfe, the 2013 MX1 Canadian
National Champion, put in two
solid 4-5 rides to claim fourth
overall.
"I felt really good today," said
Metcalfe. "The first moto took
me a while to just work the jit-
ters out and settle down. I re-
ally started to flow in the second
Who knows what would've happened if
Cooper Webb had better starts. He was
very impressive coming up through the
250 pack en route to 2-2 moto finishes.
