WORLD SUPERBIKE
WORLD SUPERBIKE CHAMPIONSHIP
ROUND 5/MAY 25, 2014
DONINGTON PARK/DONINGTON PARK, ENGLAND
P74
and 10 races in varied conditions.
For second place qualifier in
a wet Superpole, Leon Haslam's
home race was a dry house of
pain on his Pata Honda. He thinks
he is too aggressive for his bike,
which Rea seems to finesse with
more success, but he still hoped
to be better than 29 seconds be-
hind the winner in eighth in race
one, and then 33 seconds back
in an improved seventh place in
race two.
The nearest thing to a home
race for Eugene Laverty is Don-
ington, but the second Voltcom
Crescent Suzuki rider had two
horrible races. He no-scored
in race one after crashing and
then fell again in race two – but,
remounted and finished 13th.
Electronics have been a problem
but now he is crashing with no
idea why, which means his win in
Australia in the first race of round
one is a long way away now. He
is 10th in the championship.
In the Evo class the invisible
Bimotas led the way again before
they were dropped from the re-
sults due to not yet being homol-
ogated. Christian Iddon had the
chance to run his Alstare Bimota
BB3 in front of a home crowd
from 13th on the grid, but fell in
race one.
It had been a mixed bag of a
weekend for the vast number
of British riders who dominate
numerically in World Superbike
right now but there was only one
lord of the Donington manor and
it was Sykes. He did the double
here last year and he did it again
this year and as a result he's 26
points ahead of both Rea and
Baz, 37 ahead of Guintoli and 76
(more than three race wins worth
of points) up on Davies in fifth.CN
