2014 AIRES AMA NATC MOTOTRIAL USA NATIONAL SERIES
VOL. 51 ISSUE 21 MAY 28, 2014 P113
on time," said Smage. "But I think
I got in the groove pretty fast af-
ter the first few sections, and I
started feeling pretty good on the
bike right away. I usually struggle
on my first loop, and I think I had
just a handful of single dabs so I
was happy with that."
Matejicek and Bolopue con-
tinued their battle over second,
with Matejicek coming out on top
after taking 37 points on the final
lap compared to 47 for Bolopue.
Matejicek's 95 total points was
good for second, while Bolopue
rounded out the podium with 119
for the day.
"I had a really bad start be-
cause I had so many fives," said
Matejicek. "I didn't feel good
on the bike at first, I had some
crashes and I needed some time
to get used to the sections here.
In Europe we usually don't have
such big stuff, it is usually more
technical."
Sherco USA's Daniel Blanc-
Gonnet edged veteran rider Keith
Wineland by a single mark to
take fourth, 119-120. Meanwhile,
Wineland was somewhat happy
with fifth, since it was his first
national event since taking an ex-
tended absence from the series
to work for the Nuclear Cowboyz
production.
The sections were a bit easier
on Sunday, and Smage took ad-
vantage of that fact, turning in a
nearly perfect ride. The Sherco
rider need only one dab for the
entire day, taking it on loop one
at the top of one of the biggest
rock walls of the event. Matejicek
seemed more relaxed and was in
much better form on Sunday, as
well, and posted loop scores of
seven, two and thirteen for a to-
tal of 22 for the day and second
overall.
Wineland apparently needed
one day to get back into his old
form and on Sunday the Colora-
do rider put his Gas Gas on the
final step of the podium with a
total score of 48, while Bolopue
settled for fourth at 63 points.
Blanc-Gonnet was fifth with 98.

round in Kansas, Smage looks
