T
he question upon arrival at Le Mans was simple
enough: can Marc Marquez win every race this year?
The question upon departure from the unusu-
ally sunbaked French racing capital was the same, but re-
phrased: Who the hell can stop him?
Until this race, it was clear that the only person who
could interrupt the run of victories would be Marquez him-
self. He had a bit of a go at exactly that at Le Mans. For
once his start was bad and he was getting mugged – and
on the first lap he was punted off the track at the corner
before the back straight. He finished the first of 28 laps of
the Bugatti circuit in 10th place, with the cream of the crop
in front of him.
He spent the next 12 laps whipping the cream. His last
victim was Valentino Rossi, who had done everything right
to eke out a handy little lead, and was anticipating a good
battle.
Hopes for that did not last long. Rossi made a small mis-
take and ran wide; Marquez pounced, and that was over.

won his fifth
MotoGP in a row
on Sunday and he
won this one after
ending the first
lap in 10
th
place.
