halfway through. The whole second half I just
felt like crud. I just cruised, but luckily it was
enough. I guess everyone was having trouble;
it wasn't just me."
The racing earlier in the day wasn't quite as
torturous for District 37 racers. Tatum Sik got
things started on Saturday morning with a win
in the Women's class, overalling the race and
finishing ahead of defending Women's Cham-
pion Elizabeth Bash. In the following race, Andy
Kirker dominated the Magnum class with a big
win ahead of Fred Hatch and Chuck Sun, with
Mark Davenport collecting top honors in the
Lightweight Expert class.
There were no surprises in the Vet and Senior
classes, as John Burr Cycles' Gordon Ward put
it to the field.
"The Vet race went pretty well," Ward said.
"I started off in second place behind Bob Rob-
erts and just followed him around a bit, saw his
lines and took the opportunity to pass him on
the truck course. Then I was just riding my own
race and got a bit of a lead."
Ward went on to take an even more dominat-
ing win in the Senior class on Sunday, putting
nearly three minutes between himself and sec-
ond-place finisher Paul Krause.
Sunday's action concluded with the Expert
divisions taking to the course. Maxxis rider
Beau Baron collected the win in the Quad class
Dust, it's all part of racing in the desert.
