IN THE WIND P20 POURCEL SET FOR AMA RETURN F ormer MX2 World Champion and two-time AMA 250 Su- percross Champion Christophe Pourcel, who has been laying low since the 2012 FIM World Motocross GP Series, will partic- ipate in the 2014 Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship. The Frenchman hooked up with Valli Motorsports at the be- ginning of the year and has offi- cially put a program together to compete in the 250cc class in the upcoming outdoor Nation- als. Yamaha made it official by announcing its involvement with Pourcel and the Valli Motors- ports Yamaha Team, which will be managed by former Yamaha and Honda team manager Erik Kehoe. Before Pourcel returned to the GPs in 2012, he tried mounting a comeback in the U.S. Nationals riding a YZ450 on the MotoCon- cepts Yamaha Team, which last- ed only a short while. In 2010, Pourcel came within a few laps of winning the AMA 250 outdoor National title for the Monster En- ergy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki Team before suffering an injury. The year before that, a mechanical DNF most likely cost him the title in 2009. "When I came to America I had one goal and that was to win the AMA 250 Motocross Na- tional title," said Pourcel. "I came so close, but never realized my goal. That fire still burns." As far as Kehoe goes, his last SACTO MILE BACK ON O fficials from Cal Expo and AMA Pro Racing announced on Monday that the Sacramento Mile will return to the 2014 AMA Pro Flat Track schedule on July 26, despite the fact that it was originally cancelled due to con- cerns about the effect the race would have on the horse-racing facility. The event was on the original schedule, then removed, and now it's back on. The Sacramento Mile returned to the AMA Pro Flat Track sched- ule in 2011 after a nine-year ab- sence. Over the last month, ne- gotiations have been ongoing with the intent of creating a long- term agreement for the event that will honor the history of the race, according to AMA Pro Racing. "We're thrilled to be able to get the Sacramento Mile back on the 2014 AMA Pro Flat Track schedule," said Michael Gentry, Chief Operating Officer of AMA Pro Racing. "The race is al- ways one of the most prominent events on the schedule and I'm really looking forward to watch- ing our riders take to the track at the Cal Expo in late July." The event will be promoted by SMI, a company owned and operated by former road racer Steve McLaughlin. Event spon- sorship, marketing, promotion and advertising will be handled by Don Henry of Henry Advertis- ing; Lynne H. Saunders will be director of operations and Den- nis Pearson, of Dirt Productions, will build and maintain the track. The previously cancelled Sacramento Mile is back on the AMA Grand National Championship schedule for July 26.
