AMSOIL AMA GRAND NATIONAL CROSS COUNTRY SERIES, PRESENTED BY MAXXIS VOL. 51 ISSUE 19 MAY 13, 2014 P61 "It was a tough day today, the heat and humidity played a toll on all of us. I'll take third today, considering last round's results," Strang said. Bach had a breakthrough per- formance for the 2014 season on Sunday, as he maintained a solid top five running all afternoon. Upon switching to an all-new bike brand and team this season, Bach has seemingly struggled to find his comfort zone. Bach said, "The team has been working super hard on the motorcycle and we've put a lot of time into testing. We basically have a whole new bike from what we started with and I think it really made a difference." N-Fab AmPro Yamaha's Jordan Ashburn caught up to Bach in the final moments where he put forth a valiant effort to finish just over 1.5 seconds behind Bach for fifth overall. Factory Husqvarna's Andrew Delong entered himself into the battle for fourth place along- side Bach and Ashburn, but the Pennsylvania-native wasn't able to make any passes at the end, finishing sixth place behind Ash- burn. Bach added, "I'm just pumped to be in the race today. The races prior to this I felt like I was just par- ticipating, I mean I was giving 100 percent but that was sometimes not even good enough for a top 10 finish. I felt really solid and I'm glad to give the team a good finish." N-Fab AmPro Yamaha's Paul Whibley came in seventh, while HR Motorsports-backed Takeshi Koikeda took eighth. Illinois-na- tive Adam Bonneur finished ninth in the XC1 Pro class, while Rock- star Energy/WMR KTM's Ryan Sipes rounded out the top 10 in the class. The XC2 Pro Lites point stand- ings shook up, once again, as KTM Support rider Grant Baylor captured a big win on Sunday to reclaim the lead after six rounds of racing. Raines Riding University/ Atlas Cycles' Ricky Russell rode hard all afternoon but it wasn't enough to stop the reigning XC2 champ this time, as he finished second place in the class. By the midway point, Maxx- is/KLIM/DirtWise KTM Race (Left) JCR Honda's Chris Bach had his best result of the season. (Bottom left) Grant Baylor overtook the XC2 Pro Lites points lead with the class win. (Bottom right) Ricky Russell could not repeat the XC2 win but finished right behind Baylor.
