OFF ROAD AMA/SRT HARE & HOUND NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES ROUND 6/MAY 3, 2014 LITTLE SAHARA RECREATION AREA/JERICHO, UTAH P96 My Own Race: 25 TJ HANNIFIN 4 TH PRO 4TH OVERALL Though he's concentrating on USRA races closer to home in Utah instead of chasing the Nationals this year, Purvines Racing Beta's TJ Hannifin proved he's still got National-lev- el speed by finishing fourth after spending quite a bit of the race in second place. "I was third at the end of the bomb - I had a really good start," he said. "I was actually probably fifth or so, but a bunch of people wrecked. Nick Burson wrecked right next to me when we were going through the sand. At the end of the bomb I was in third and got by I think Ty Renshaw into second; I got by him pretty fast and then stayed in second and was pretty close to Ramirez most of the first loop, but I could never make any ground on him. Ricky caught me towards the end of the loop, but I pulled away from him in the cedars. He pretty much stayed behind me. Then the second loop, I was in second for probably the first 20 miles, then I ran out of water and just started to get dehydrated and pretty much hit the wall. I couldn't run that pace any more so Ricky and Nick got by me pretty quick after that." N4X JOSH KNIGHT 1ST 250 EXPERT 5TH OVERALL "I got a good jump off the start - I was about fifth through the second set of banners," ADS Motorsports/Dad/Fly KTM 250 XC-mounted Josh Knight said of his race. "I stayed there until we jumped on the trail and made a cou- ple quick mistakes and had a tip-over. I jumped back up in sixth right behind Ricky Brabec then made two passes, and then rode fourth for the first loop. About mile 40 Nick Burson caught me and I kind of battled with him a little in the trees then figured that he was in the points chase and I let him make a quick pass and paced off him for the next little while. The second loop, I went out and was kind of in the dust still, rode good. It was hot so I drank a lot and ran out. I kind of started hitting the wall and slowing down, but I kept the best pace I could." 45 miles long mostly in the flat- ter areas and the second some 41 miles of seemingly endless turns through the cedars in the foothills. Ramirez launched his Mo- torex/Dunlop/Bonanza Plumb- ing-backed 450 XC-F off the line quickest when the banner dropped and shot to the front as he picked his way through the tricky bomb run through the sand dunes to the west of the main pit. A few yards to his left, Burson and Precision Concepts Kawasaki's Ty Renshaw ran close in second and third until Burson took a big head- er that almost ended his race.
