IN THE WIND P28 WHEN LEGENDS MEET T he 3rd Annual Desert Legends Reunion was held in Randsburg, California, last week at Goat Sky Ranch. Some of the biggest names and legends in desert racing attended the two-day event hosted by Goat Breker and the staff of GSR. The event has spun off from a birthday party held for D-37 and Baja Champion AC Bakken four years ago and now draws many past desert champions, family and fans who all have come together to cel- ebrate 50 years of desert racing alongside some of the greatest racers in the history of the sport. This year's event included Mitch Mayes, Jack Johnson, Max Switzer, Brent Wallingsford, Bob Rutten, Bob Balentine, Scot Harden, Jeff Kaplan, Art Knapp, Monte Lee and Gus Paul to name a few. "It was an amazing weekend spent with so many great guys," said Scot Harden. "We can't thank Goat enough for pushing all of us to come together to share our common past and to renew friendships that have endured for years. All of these guys set such high standards and achieved so many great accomplishments in the sport of desert motorcycle racing. True legends who are all heroes in my book. It was great to catch up and share stories from our common past." (Left to right) Bob Balentine, AC Bakken, Art Knapp, Mitch Mayes, Max Switzer, Brent Wallingsford, Jack Johnson and Scot Harden. SUPERBIKE SHOOTOUT: MILLER TIME? T o a man, everyone who has participated in the two rounds of the three-race Superbike Shootout has had nothing but good things to say about it. It's been well organized, well attend- ed and the television package will start airing on June 5. But will the three factory Superbike teams – Yamaha, Yoshimura Su- zuki and KTM – attend the third and final round at Miller Motor- sports Park in Utah on May 24? That's currently up for debate. Yamaha, the number-one backer of the series, will most definitely be there. KTM also looks to at- tend. But at this point, the Yo- shimura Suzuki team looks to be skipping the race in order to pre- pare for the second round of the AMA Superbike Championship scheduled for Road America a week later. "At this moment, it's likely we won't attend Miller – the third round of this three-race series," Yoshimura Suzuki team manager Don Sakakura said at Sonoma Raceway. "Simply because of our preparation for the Road America event. At this point, likely not - unless something changes in the next couple of days. We're just really planning on getting through these first two
