Marc VDS teammate and points

disappointing home GP to finish

What can anyone do about

KALLIO'S TURN
For reasons that are hard to under-
stand, Jerez brought out the worst
in what is usually an exciting Moto2
class, with a processional race and
few battles of any import.
It brought out the best in Marc VDS
Kalex's Mika Kallio and he turned
the tables on his hitherto dominant
teammate Tito Rabat, who had been
on pole at all three flyaways, won two
of them and was second at the other.
Here he qualified sixth, and never got
anywhere near the front.
Kallio took pole by a fair margin of
almost half a second, led off the line,
and was never headed.
"We went into the race with a clear
plan; push hard to build a lead in
the first five laps while the tires were
good and then manage the gap while
conserving the tires for the rest of the
race," Kallio said. "The plan worked
perfectly. Even so, it was such a hard
race, even if it didn't look that way.
I had to stay on the limit the whole
race."
The rider forcing the issue was
carXpert Suter's Dominique Aegerter,
who seized second from the second
row of the grid, and stayed there
throughout.
He blamed little mistakes in the
early laps for losing touch with Kallio.
Try as he might, he couldn't get the
gap to less than a second, and was
2.4 behind over the line. Second was
the Swiss rider's best result in the
class.
