MOTOGP WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP
ROUND 3/APRIL 27, 2014
AUTODROMO TERMAS DE RIO HONDA/BUENOS AIRES, ARGENTINA
P56
Not so in the race, however,
where the high-speed layout and
the still-slippery surface off-line
conspired to produce an early-
laps brawl more suited to the in-
dignities of Moto3 than the pre-
mier class.
As riders tripped over one
another, sending rivals wide
onto the low-grip dirt-track that
lurked off-line and changing
places back and forth, Movistar
Yamaha's Jorge Lorenzo made
the most of his front-row start to
stage an early breakaway.
But his redemption after two
disastrous races is still some-
thing of a work in progress. He
was best Yamaha, for sure; and
he made no mistakes this time.
But he was not only firmly out-
classed after Marquez caught,
stalked and pounced, but nor
was he best of the rest.
Marquez's Repsol Honda
teammate Dani Pedrosa had lost
too much ground playing it cau-
tiously in the scrum conditions,
and was as low as seventh at
one stage. But he picked his way
through and was third after nine
of 25 laps. At that point he was
well over three seconds adrift of
(Above) Lorenzo (99) ended up
losing second place to Dani Pedrosa
(26) on the penultimate lap, giving
the Repsol Honda team its second
one-two finish in a row.
(Right) The opening laps were
intense with riders swapping spots
all around the racetrack. Here
Andrea Iannone (29) leads Andrea
Dovizioso (04), Valentino Rossi (46),
Stefan Bradl (hidden) and Marquez
(93).
