up putting myself off the race-
track and making things hard for
me."
Hayes' off track excursion
moved him down to fifth behind
Anthony and allowed Beaubier to
slip past Cardenas and take the
lead. But Cardenas took the lead
from Beaubier with two laps to go
and held him off to take the win.
In the meantime, Hayes didn't
quit and charged back to move
within striking distance of the po-
dium. He then got a good drive
out of the corner to take Hayden
at the line by .003 of a second.
Even though it wasn't a Na-
tional with the AMA Superbike
Championship on the line, for
Cardenas victory was still sweet.
"Same, same," Cardenas said
about the feeling of the win. "And
especially this one, all the top
guys are here so the feeling is
the same as if I won in the oth-
er series that we are racing in.
So, yeah, it feels great and very
happy for me and the Yoshimura
Suzuki team."
Beaubier also left the race with
a good feeling.
"I mean he [Cardenas] did a re-
ally good job on leading the last
lap," Beaubier said. "I struggled
a little bit on my start, got shuffled
back to fifth and slowly worked
my way through. It was cool I
had a couple little battles here
and there with David Anthony
and then Rog [Hayden] when I
got up to him and then the same
with Martin [Cardenas] and Josh.
[Hayes]. I'm racing against really
good guys and I need to build my
racecraft."
Anthony brought his Suzuki
home in fifth.
Running lonely races behind
the top five were HMC KTM's
Chris Fillmore in sixth, Yoshimura
Suzuki's Chris Clark in seventh
and GEICO Honda's Chris Ulrich
in eighth.
Rounding out the top 10 were
privateers Daytona Anderson on
a Suzuki and Mathew Orange on
a BMW.
