SUPERBIKE SHOOTOUT SUPERBIKE SHOOTOUT SERIES ROUND 1/APRIL 27, 2014 AUTO CLUB SPEEDWAY/FONTANA, CALIFORNIA P116 "I'm glad we came out," HMC KTM's Chris Fillmore said. "Be- cause it already felt like a big gap from Daytona to come to this and if we didn't have this going into Road America, it would've been kind of tough." Pro Sportbike rider and new- est addition to the Yamaha Y.E.S. team, JD Beach, also felt that the Superbike Shootout would help him prepare for the next AMA round at Road America on May 31-June 1. "Yeah, I think so," Beach said about the extra track time. "Es- pecially since our season hasn't started off too well. With the cou- ple of tests we had and with the first race… I've crashed at every one of them. So it's going to be good to be able to get more seat time and work with the new crew some more and just kind of get to know each other and go into Road America and be that much more ready." >>RACER'S INSTINCTS If you questioned whether or not the riders would be thinking about the coveted AMA Super- bike Championship and maybe hold things a bit in reserve, you forgot about a racer's DNA. Also known as the Ricky Bobby Syn- drome – you're either first or last. So even though the Superbike Shootout has no championship implications and everyone's just out there testing, it was still a race. And everyone raced it with the goal to win. "I think I can probably say all the way up until the green flag dropped that... one carries weight more than the other," Hayes said. "For years and years and years we've been going af- ter these AMA National Cham- pionships for the record books. But once the helmet went down and we started the warm up lap it didn't matter. I was racing my competition… we gridded up and raced. I don't treat it any differ- ent. Once the visor goes down it doesn't matter what you're racing for… You could've told me there's a nice cold can of Monster at the end and I was going to throw him [Cardenas] under the bus anyway I could to get there. I think it's just in our personality and how we work." "I think it's impossible as a rac- er [to not give 100 percent for the win]," Hayden concurred. "All of us are so competitive to not go for it. For me I treated it just like it was a race." CN Pro Superbike Results 1. Martin Cardenas (Suzuki) 2. Cameron Beaubier (Yamaha) 3. Josh Hayes (Yamaha) 4. Roger Hayden (Suzuki) 5.
