TEAM GRESINI TURNS 18

n April 13, 1997 Team Honda
Gresini made its debut in the
500cc World Championship, in
the Malaysian Grand Prix at the
Circuit of Shah Alam, with Bra-
zilian Alex Barros racing a Hon-
da NSR500 V-twin for the new
team. Last Sunday at the Red
Bull of the Americas the team
celebrated its 18
th
year of racing.
Alex Barros, who will visit the
MotoGP paddock at this week-
end's Grand Prix of Argentina re-
members that debut.
"I have great memories of that
race, and of the whole 1997 sea-
son," Barros said. "Despite the
fact that the team had been set
up in just two months, we man-
aged to be competitive straight
away, immediately showing podi-
um potential. In fact, I was in fifth
position when unfortunately I had
a gearbox problem. However, it
was a great debut, and also in
the following races we proved to
be fast, going very close to sev-
eral podium finishes and clinch-
ing a fantastic third place at Don-
ington."

TOUGHS IT OUT

avid Knight claimed victory at
the Tough One Hard Enduro
in England on April 20, turning an
inspired come-from-behind per-
formance into a win for the for-
mer World Enduro Champion and
Sherco. It was the Spanish com-
pany's first-ever victory in a Hard
Enduro event.
With the event moving to the
legendary Hawkstone Park Mo-
tocross Circuit to celebrate The
