"I tried to get away, but I lost my drink system so I knew the last part of the race was going to be really hard," Thomas said. "He set a good pace and I was happy to follow him," Whib- ley said. "I think Nick Fahringer came up with us early on there, but it was mostly Jason and me. One of us would come forward and drop back, come forward and drop back. "Eventually, we got a little bit of a gap on third, I think. "Steward Baylor was up with us, I think the third-to-last lap. He jumped into second; he passed me at one point. "The second-to-last lap there was a mud hole. I went one way, Jason went the other way and I got into the lead. I'd actu- ally passed him a few times and I really tried to make a break, but he'd always find another line back past me so I never really got a break, and that time I did get Briefly... series, but I didn't want to do the GNCCs just because I don't want to run that pace for that long anymore. And the OMAs kind of suit me a little better - they're shorter and the tracks are a little better for me, more suit- able to what I like. I kind of like this series; they cut back the number of races so there's not that many this year - that was a factor, too. It makes it a little easier, coming all the way from Idaho when you don't have to come back 10 or 15 times." One of Jimmy Jarrett's new racing buddies in Idaho made the trip with him to participate in his first OMA, which was also his first woods race and first time racing east of the Rockies. "I wasn't expecting as Former AMA National enduro champ Steward Baylor made time in the woods but was outgunned in the fast grass track sections. Mark Heresco (412) emerged safely from this first turn madness and went on to take the Pro 2 victory over Tyson Emery (122) and Spencer Burke (blue and black helmet behind Heresco). continued on next page
