Briefly...
In addition to hosting the weekend
on their property, the Kirkpatrick
family donated $650 to be used as
holeshot awards for the afternoon
races, spread out over all of the
classes: Pro, Pro 2, Open A, Lite A,
30-39 A, 40-49 A and Advanced B.
The race also served as a memorial
for longtime family patriarch "Sarge"
Kirkpatrick.
The course for the main race was a
little over six miles long - somewhat
short by OMA standards - and includ-
ed quite a bit of fast, flowing grass
track sections as well as single-track
in the woods, with the dirt in prime
condition. Jason Thomas said, "The
trail was real flowing, real good. The
dirt was real tacky. It had a bunch of
nice grass track out there where you
were able to rip it pretty good. That's
where the majority of the passing
was done, out in the grass track. It
was fun!" Paul Whibley concurred,
adding, "The traction was just unbe-
lievable. It was great!"
Steward Baylor is no stranger to
tight single-track so the 2012 AMA
National Enduro Champion decided
to try an OMA for the first time. "I just
wanted to race this weekend, and
I figured riding against these guys
would be better than doing a local
race," he said. "It was supposed to
be muddy anyway [back home]. It's
a lot like a National enduro except
you're doing laps so it was awe-
some. I guess they're not usually this
fast, but this track was a blast."
"It was fun seeing everybody again,"
Jimmy Jarrett said. "I'm not re-
ally looking to set the world on fire
this year - just coming back and do-
ing the best I can. I wanted to do a
