I
t was impossible to downplay
how impressive the perfor-
mance of the Kawasaki duo of
Tom Sykes and Loris Baz was
this weekend, with the reigning
World Champion and the young
pretender at it again as they had
been in race two in Phillip Island.
The man of the meeting was
unquestionably Sykes, who
scored Superpole, a new race
lap record in a dominant race-
one win, and then maybe an even
more impressive and battling vic-
tory in race two.
He disappeared in his favored
front-running style in the opener,
winning from Baz by 4.275 sec-
onds, but in race two he had to
both lead and defend for most of
the 17-lap race.
Baz was on his tail and it will not
be the only time in 2014 if the im-
provement in the 21-year-old riders
consistency is anything to go by.
"There was a change in tem-
perature in race two on the start-
ing grid and I had to dig extra
deep and try to make the best
of the changing situation," said
