DESALLE, HERLINGS TOPS AT ARCO DI
TRENTO
R
ockstar Energy Suzuki
World's Clement Desalle
and Red Bull KTM Factory
Racing's Jeffrey Herlings
claimed overall victories in
their respective classes in
the FIM Motocross World
Championship at Arco Di
Trento, Italy, on April 13.
In the MXGP class, it was
an all-Belgian podium, with
Desalle claiming the over-
all win, followed by Yamaha
Factory Racing's Jeremy
Van Horebeek and Rockstar
teammate Kevin Strijbos.
However, it was French-
man Gautier Paulin who got
things started with the win in the
first moto, followed by Desalle
and Horebeek. Things looked to
be going Paulin's way again in the
second moto when his motorcy-
cle came to a halt with a technical
problem. Desalle then took over
the reigns and went on to win the
moto and the overall.
Horebeek took second and
Strijbos third.
And what happened to points
leader Antonio Cairoli? Bad
starts and crashes held the Red
Bull KTM rider to fifth overall.
"I made too many mistakes my-
self," Cairoli said. "I was last on
the start in race one and then in
race two I crashed, then I got go-
ing again and found my lines and
my rhythm and then I fell down
again. For sure I wanted to win,
but it's not always possible."
Cairoli still leads Desalle by 17
points in the World Championship.
In MX2, Herlings had to battle
his way forward from two average
starts to take a win in race one
and a second in race two for the
MX2 overall.
Team CLS Kawasaki Monster
Energy's Arnaud Tonus finished
second in race one and third in
race two after banging bars with
rival Herlings. His 2–3 gave To-
nus second overall for the day,
which was enough to hold on to
the red plate with a lead of six
points over third overall Glenn
Coldenhoff on the Rockstar En-
ergy Suzuki.
Defending MX2
champ Jeffrey
Herlings returned
from injury and
won the MX2
class in Italy.
>>LORENZO: BRAIN FADE
N
ormally the words focused and mentally tough go hand and hand
with Movistar Yamaha's Jorge Lorenzo. In fact they are essential
qualities for a multi-time World Champion. So when Lorenzo jumped
the start of Grand Prix of the Americas in Austin, Texas by a long shot
on Sunday, it left everyone who witnessed it scratching their heads.
How did that happen?
"I arrive into the line and I have already too many mosquitos to
