"I made a mistake in that heat
and just washed out and hit my
shoulder pretty hard," Villopoto
said of the crash.
Eventually transferring out of
the semi, Villopoto got a great start
in the final from a not-so-desired
gate choice and checked out
on the competition for his fourth
win of the year. He also gained 11
points on his closest rival going
into the race, Ryan Dungey who
was involved in a first-lap pileup
and had to fight from nearly dead
last to get seventh. Villopoto also
gained ground on James Stew-
art, the winner of the last three
races, who was dealing with his
own sickness at Houston.
"I definitely feel better," said
Villopoto. "I wouldn't say I've
been in a slump, but James has
been on a roll lately. The biggest
deal is the championship and the
points. We put ourselves in the
position in the beginning of the
season and got the points gap
to where it is and we need to be
smart about it. I don't need to win
