IN THE WIND P30 SUNDERLAND ON TOP IN ABU DHABI R ed Bull KTM's new recruit Sam Sunderland is making the most of his opportunity, the Brit taking the overall lead in the Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge af- ter finishing second to his team- mate Marc Coma in the second stage on Monday, April 7. Coma topped Sunderland by two minutes in stage two, but it's Sunderland at the top of the overall standings – by a minute and 25 seconds over his team- mate. The factory Honda of Pau- lo Goncalves is third overall after finishing third in Monday's stage, the Portuguese rider some four minutes and 16 seconds behind the leading KTM. Goncalves' teammate Joan Barreda is currently fourth over- all with Jordi Viladoms fifth on the third factory Red Bull KTM. The first stage of the event on Sunday, April 6 was marred by the death of British rider Cam- eron Waugh, who was found injured at the 155 km mark by KTM's support rider Jakub Przy- gonski. Przygonski raised the alarm and performed CPR for 20 minutes on Waugh and the Brit was airlifted to hospital some 13 minutes later. He was pro- nounced dead on arrival, how- ever. BAUER/KTM IMAGES UKRAINIAN MX ROUND CANCELLED T he FIM has cancelled the World Motocross Championship round scheduled for August 17 in Ukraine because of political unrest in the region. The FIM says it has postponed the event until 2015 and is looking for a replacement round to fill the void in the schedule. With three rounds in the books, the series will resume on April 13 with the Grand Prix of Trentino. The rest of the series is as follows: Round 5 – Sevlievo, Bulgaria, April 20 Round 6 – Valkenswaard, Holland, May 4 Round 7 – Talavera de la Reina, Spain, May 11 Round 8 – Matterly Basin, England, May 25 Round 9 – St. Jean d'Angely, France, June 1 Round 10 – Maggiora, Italy, June 15 Round 11 – Teutschenthal, Germany, June 22 Round 12 – Uddevalla, Sweden, July 6 Round 13 – Hyvinkaa, Finland, July 13 Round 14 – Loket, Czech Republic, July 27 Round 15 – TBA, Belgium, August 3 Round 16 – TBA, August 17
