ROBERTS HONORED BY TRAILBLAZERS

hree-time World Champion and
two-time AMA Grand National
Champion Kenny Roberts was hon-
ored by the Trailblazers on Saturday
night, April 5 with the club's highest
award – the Dick Hammer Award.
Roberts is the 15
th
recipient of the
award, joining Hammer, Gene Rome-
ro, Joe Leonard, Everett Brashear,
Tom Cates, Dick Mann, Bud Ekins,
Skip Van Leeuwen, Dennis Mahan,
Malcolm Smith, Dan Gurney, Ralph
White, Sammy Tanner and Ed Kretz Jr.
The Trailblazers also inducted Sid
Carlson, Mary McGee, Bill Cody, Jim
O'Neal, Dusty Coppage, Ron Wood
and Tom Horton into its Hall of Fame.
"The lady [Mary McGee] was right,
motorcycling is a community and I
have a lot of great friends here," Rob-
erts said. "He [Hammer] was a great
guy and I know a lot about him even
though I didn't get to meet him much.
It's a big honor. Thank you very much."

SMITHS GET NHRA DEAL
T
he Matt Smith Racing team of Matt and Angie Smith have reached a spon-
sorship agreement with Kandy Magazine that will see Angie Smith's mo-
torcycle branded with Kandy graphics starting this weekend at the NHRA
Four-Wide Nationals in Charlotte, North Carolina.
"We are thrilled to have Kandy Magazine join our MSR team and to help
bring Angie out to her first race of her season" said Matt Smith.
"Words can't describe how pumped up I am to represent Kandy Magazine
at my hometown race," said Angie Smith. "Kandy Magazine is offering me a
golden opportunity and I'm very thankful for it. My recent test session has us
all really excited and I'm ready to roll."
In addition to the sponsorship, Kandy Magazine will be doing a monthly
feature on the NHRA.
Angie Smith has a new sponsor for the NHRA Pro Stock Series.
