CN III VOICES L E T T E R S T O T H E E D I T O R "Before registering your next Honda hate mail, consider they did what they were asked to do, and by when they were asked to do it." Letters to the editor can be sent to voices@cyclenews.com. Published letters do not necessarily reflect the position of Cycle News. Letters should not exceed 150 words and are subject to editing. Anonymous letters won't be considered for publication and each letter should contain the writer's name, address and daytime phone number… Editor P16 No To Nuff Said I hope that Brent Meeker/Nuff said (Voices, Issue 13, April 1) can rethink his NASCAR-directed snark because he does a dis- service to all drivers of competi- tion vehicles, and perhaps he might actually spend some time as a volunteer crew member at an SCCA event, or actually spend time out on the track in a race car and see just how "easy" it really is. So to drive at the speeds that they do on the track, it would be irresponsible to drive with "sinus problems" due to the reduced reaction times, etc., and besides that, motorcycles and those who race them are awesome all by themselves with- out trashing other motorsports professionals. On another note, I look forward to every email letting me know that the new issue is avail- able. I read every page except the stats, I glaze over the lists of numbers, but I realize that others enjoy them so I have no problem with them being there. We all have to get along, eh? I subscribed to Cycle News 30-plus years ago but lost touch like so many other things, and I don't recall how I started getting it online, but at first I was leery because a lot of web-based magazines are a mess. But yours is well written and definitely a pleasure to read, a visual feast in fact, because your choice in pho- tos is just outstanding And after 40-plus years of shooting photos, I know a bit about composition. Derek Hoyle Fort Bragg, CA Likes Nuff Said I got a good laugh out of Brent Meeker's comparison of the tough guys of motocross with the weenies of NAPCAR (not a typo). However, he should at least get Sam Hornish Jr.'s name right. Even though he switched to the dark side several years ago, Hornish was the winner of the thrilling 2006 Indy 500 (I was there) and was also a three-time IndyCar champ. Steve Casper Eden Prairie, MN Supercross Injuries I'm just curious what it's going to take before AMA Pro Racing, etc., decides to finally design safer Supercross tracks like they used to be? After the Toronto crashfest and all the previous injuries I think it's time. Throw in Wil Hahn's accident and now it's even crazier. What's it going to take to stop these silly "Pogo-Stick" racetracks and design safer tracks, another paralyzed rider or several deaths? Used to be the Pros raced on Saturday, and then the amateurs raced virtually the same track on Sunday. That could never happen today. Additionally, I have to won- der about all the mid-pack and back-of-the-pack riders - are they crashing and getting hurt too and we just don't hear about it? I think it's time to get back to the roots of motocross and make exciting, but safer, tracks. Dan Cameron Woodland, CA MotoGP Rules All this talk about "spirit of rules" in MotoGP had me searching for where we read about this before so I came across an interview from Cycle News in 2012 where this spirit is described. It's an interview, ironically titled "End of an Era," with Dorna boss Carmelo Ezpeleta recount- ing discussions with Honda that clearly lays out the road Honda followed for their produc- tion racer to the letter. Yamaha delayed more than a year and would propose leasing motors, which now has become the entire bike, something the Dorna boss discusses in this interview as banning altogether. And finally Ducati whose new boss said re- cently "show me where the rules says it has to be cheap." Before registering your next Honda hate mail, consider they did what they were asked to do, and by when they were asked to do it. It's just what ended up in the rules was something else.
