AMSOIL ARENACROSS CHAMPIONSHIP
VOL. 51 ISSUE 13 APRIL 1, 2014 P105
the beginning of "The Race for
the Championship," Bowers was
injured again. He kept that quiet
as well.
"It's been a hell of a year," he
said. "From the first round I got
hurt and broke my lower leg and
tried to get back into shape and
healthy again," Bowers said.
"Then at the points reset, I went
down at that first round and broke
some ribs, so I was dealing with
that lately, too. All I've been doing
is practicing starts. It's about all I
could do. It's been a crazy year
and I just practice starts all week.
It's the most practice starts I've
ever done during the year and
the least amount of laps that I've
ever done for a season.
"But I'm super pumped to be
able to get this championship,"
added Bowers. "Battling with my
teammate, roommate and best
friend Zach Ames has been in-
credible as well as the whole
Babbitt's Monster Energy Amsoil
Kawasaki team."
Tuf Racing Ti-Lube Honda's Ja-
cob Hayes came out of nowhere
in 2014 and surprised many. He
started the series aboard a pri-
vateer Kawasaki and ended it
with a ride on one of Arenacross'
most successful teams. Hayes
won six main events throughout
the series and finished second
overall, only 25 points down from
Bowers. A 3-6 at Salt Lake con-
firmed, once again, that he has
the speed to contest for Aren-
across titles in the future.
"I made a really big effort to
come to Arenacross this year
and make an impression," Hayes
said. "I wanted to open some
eyes and I think I did. I diced it
up with the defending champ and
Bowers dominated the final night of
racing in Salt Lake.
