IN THE WIND P30 CAMIER TO BMW TEAM B ritish road racer Leon Camier is getting ready to return to the World Superbike paddock at the second round of the champi- onship in Aragon on April 13 as a replacement for BMW Motor- rad Team Italia SBK EVO regular rider Sylvain Barrier. Barrier suffered facial injuries in his recent car accident and al- though he hopes to return to the action as soon as possible, Ara- gon will come along too early in his recovery plan. The two-time FIM Superstock Champion for BMW hopes to make it back in time for the Assen round, on April 27, although other sources sug- gest it will more likely be Imola or Donington in May. Camier is, in any case, the rider who will re- place the Frenchman until he is back to race fitness. Camier was down to ride for the Ioda MotoGP team in 2014, but that deal fell through late in the pre-season, making him a strong stand-in choice for the main BMW Evo team in the Su- perbike series, which is sup- ported by the Italian importer. The S1000RR-equipped team, one of the favorites in the new EVO class, ran Aus- sie wild card Glenn Allerton on their bike in Australia after Barrier suffered a painful pel- vic fracture in testing. Allerton finished 11th and 15th overall in the combined Superbike/EVO standings, after harrying the other top EVO riders at his local circuit. Camier, a former British Su- perbike Champion, is a nine- time World Superbike podium finisher, for Aprilia and Suzuki, and has started 97 World Super- bike races. His best race finish is second, which he has taken on two occasions. Gordon Ritchie Brit Leon Camier will fill in for the injured Sylvain Barrier in the World Superbike Championship.
