result of over 10 years of continu-
ous research and development
of electronics, algorithm perfor-
mance and airbag design. John
Hopkins was the first Alpinestars
rider to use an active data log-
ging system on track at the 2003
German Grand Prix. By the time
Casey Stoner was wearing the
suit in 2007 the electronics had
improved quite a bit in the version
and there was a much more de-
tailed electronic picture of differ-
ence between riding and crash-
ing. Alpinestar's MotoGP riders
were equipped with a fully func-
tional Tech-Air electronic airbag
system in 2010.
Nick Davis claimed the overall win at the

DAVIS FAST AT FLAT RIVER GRAND PRIX
N
ineteen-year-old Nick Davis was the big
winner at the Flat River Grand Prix, held at
the St. Joe State Park in Park Hills, Missouri,
on March 23. The race was also the opening
round of the AMA East Hare Scrambles Series,
as well as a round of the Missouri State Hare
Scrambles Championship.
Shane Klimek was the early leader but
couldn't quite maintain the point position all the
way to the end. Instead, Davis, on the Obermey-
er Suzuki RM-Z450, worked his way through the
pack to take the win. But it was close.
Stopping for fuel on the final lap allowed for-
mer hare scrambles champ Jed Haines to get
within three seconds of the Suzuki rider. Haines
ended up second, followed by Klimek.
A COTA TREAT
C
ircuit of The Americas (COTA)
recently treated approximately
120 motorcyclists and their guests
to free laps around COTA's 3.4-
mile track, which was purposely
built for the kind of racing that will
return to Austin when the track
hosts the 2014 Red Bull Grand Prix
of the Americas, April 11-13.
The track laps preceded a free
race-watching party in COTA's Ve-
