AMA VANCE & HINES HARLEY-DAVIDSON SERIES
VOL. 51 ISSUE 11 MARCH 18, 2014 P85
say safer. It was awesome. Just
so much fun. Like Tyler [O'Hara]
said, this is what we live for. I was
just loving it. It's the third win for
me and I just love this place and
it's the reason I love coming here
and spending all winter thinking
about coming here. I couldn't
imagine going to the first race
at a track I didn't like because it
would just make the winter even
more miserable. I get to look for-
ward to Daytona and I'm just so
happy to be up here. It was a long
year last year and I just feel like
we're off on the right foot."
O'Hara didn't win, but he did
the next best thing. He followed
up last year's win with a second.
"It was awesome," O'Hara said.
"Everybody wants to win Daytona
and I was fortunate to win it last
year, but I came up a little bit
short this year. Kyle rode awe-
some, Danny [Eslick]… every-
body rode really clean. It's a little
bit of luck, a little bit of something
here to get the job done, but the
race was a lot of fun. When they
are like that they go quick. They
are fun when they're like that and
you're in the moment and racing
hard every lap and that's what we
live for."
McAllister ran in the lead pack
last year, but ended up with the
short end of the stick, finishing
ninth – but just .792 of a second
from the win. This was his first
podium finish in the class.
"It was a pretty hairy ride,"
McAllister said of this years' race.
"I just tried to stay in the right posi-
tion for the last lap. I found myself
toward the front and I was looking
to be a bit further back, but I still
got a good run down the back
straightaway and it was a good
race. I was super nervous going
into it, but as soon as the green
flag went, I was ready to go."
Aerostar Global's Nick Hansen
and Suburban Harley-Davidson's
Ben Carlson rounded out the top
five, respectively.
Defending series champion
Steve Rapp failed to finish the
race with his XR suffering a bro-
ken belt adjuster. CN
