AMA GRAND NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP VOL. 51 ISSUE 11 MARCH 18, 2014 P55 beth got past his buddy Jake Johnson on the fifth lap and then rode a clean and steady race on his Zanotti Racing/Burt Ives Honda CRF450R to take the checkered flag. His margin of victory after 25 laps was 4.069 seconds. Johnson ran a strong second on his Ramspur Winery/Lloyd Brothers Motorsports Honda, hold- ing off a hard-charging Stevie Bonsey on another Zanotti Racing Honda -, giv- ing Honda riders a sweep of the podium and Zanotti two of the three top spots in the race. Briefly... in shape and figured why not come down to Daytona and do a family va- cation and sneak away two days of flat track." Thursday night's six-lap Expert Dash For Cash, featuring the top two rid- ers in each of the Expert heats, was won by Sammy Halbert. "It feels great to get the first Dash win of the year," said Halbert, who led every lap. Riders winning the 10-lap Expert heats were Briar Bauman, Matt Wei- dman and Chad Cose. In the Expert semifinals Brad Baker and Jay Malo- ney captured the victories. Friday's six-lap Expert Dash For Cash was won by Jake Johnson. Riders winning the 10-lap Expert Heats were Stevie Bonsey, John- son and Brandon Robinson. In the Expert semifinals Mikey Rush and Daniel Ingram captured the victories. SHAYNA'S DEBUT The Grand National phase of Shayna Texter's career began at Daytona 2014. Since she just missed making the mains, years from now the record books won't reveal the excellent showing she had in qualifying and in her heats and semis. She ended up on the ground in one, through no fault of her own, and Texter was highly competitive, showing good speed on a short track, a form of racing she admits that isn't her strong suit. The season will truly begin for her when the Twins hit the Mile at Springfield in May, and she'll be on the Latus Racing/Castrol Triumph, but for the record – Texter was at Daytona and she looked solid. "I feel like the weekend was pretty successful to be honest," Texter said. "I exceeded my expectations. I feel like I opened some eyes being that I went out there and was aggressive. In the Semi [Friday night] I laid it down and I got back up all the way to eighth and had the second fast- est [lap time] of the Semi. For me that stuff means a lot right now because we're learning. It definitely gave some confidence going into Springfield on a track that I know I have a realistic chance to do well at." Texter went on to say she wasn't hurt in her crash. "Kayl Kolkman went down and it was either jump him or take the safer route and lay it down in the airbags." Texter looks forward to coming back to Daytona next year with a year's experience in the Grand National class. "I was able to race with JR [Schnabel] and reel Henry [Wiles] back in after he stuffed me," Texter said. "Just little stuff like that with me being a rookie is huge for me." Although she didn't make the mains, Shayna Texter showed speed in her Grand National debut at the Day- tona short track. on top of the box here," Coolbeth said. One of the longest standing shutouts in Grand National his- tory came to an end when Cool- A fired up Coolbeth celebrates his victory on Friday night.
