SUPERBIKE AMA SUPERBIKE SERIES ROUNDS 1-2/MARCH 14-15, 2014 DAYTONA INTERNATIONAL SPEEDWAY/DAYTONA BEACH, FLORIDA P46 Two second-place finishes didn't give him the points lead, but Hayden was thinking big pic- ture. "It just matters that I have a nice gap on Cardenas and a nice gap on Hayes," Hayden said. As for the Beaubier challenge, Hayden was expecting it. But, as he says, Daytona is Daytona. "It's going to be harder for him when we get to these tighter tracks," Hayden said of his new rival. "He's still going to be very, very competitive, but here if you make a mistake it's easier… es- pecially if you have the fastest bike to recover. A lot of these other places it won't be quite that easy." Third place in the title chase? Bet you didn't guess Yoshimura Suzuki's Chris Clark. By virtue of his two fourth- place finishes, Clark is indeed third with 36 points – four more than the man he battled with both times out at Daytona, David An- thony. Then comes a three-way tie for fifth with Hayes, Cardenas and Chris Fillmore. That means Hayes is 21 points be- hind his teammate – or 27 points better off than when he left here last year. "It's not something I'm unfamiliar with," Hayes said on being down in the points chase after Daytona. "Hey, I came out of here with something – I got a race win. We'll see how it goes. Take it one day at a time. It's not like everything you do is wrapped around this championship. It's all these individual battles along the way. I will take each one of them as they come." CN Race One 1. Josh Hayes (Yamaha) 2. Roger Lee Hayden (Suzuki) 3. Cameron Beaubier (Yamaha) 4. Chris Clark (Suzuki) 5. David Anthony (Suzuki) 6. Chris Fillmore (KTM) 7. Diego Pierluigi (Suzuki) 8. Taylor Knapp (Suzuki) 9. Cory West (EBR) 10. Stefano Mesa (Kawasaki) Race Two 1. Cameron Beaubier (Yamaha) 2. Roger Lee Hayden (Suzuki) 3. Martin Cardenas (Suzuki) 4. Chris Clark (Suzuki) 5. David Anthony (Suzuki) 6. Chris Fillmore (KTM) 7. Diego Pierluigi (Suzuki) 8. Taylor Knapp (Suzuki) 9. Cory West (EBR) 10. Chris Ulrich (Honda) Taylor Knapp (44) and Cory West (13) fought it out both days with Argentinian Diego Pierluigi (80) for seventh place and Pierluigi got the nod both times out. First timer: Cameron Beaubier won his first career AMA Superbike race at Daytona. You can bet it won't be his last.
