CN III VOICES L E T T E R S T O T H E E D I T O R "I say hell yeah to Ducati's choice of class, and I hope their gamble pays off in a big way." S%$t Fight Paul Carruthers (Carruthers Says, Issue 10, March 11) said it the way I feel. Thank you for sharing that waning interest can be the result of putting the human side of racing behind finance and engineering. Technology advances. You can still go only as fast as you can afford to. Millions of race fans want to see road racers continue to battle each other on more equal terms (spell that greater access to equal software packages). I can only hope that the sport's governing bodies come to terms with the rapid techno- logical advances, environmen- tal issues and global econo- mies before the enjoyment of participating in the sport or observing it disappear. Read- ing your page was encourag- ing comradery. After all, we've been through this S#%t before. Caren Barker Ridgecrest, CA S%$t Fight II I have just read Carruthers' column on MotoGP and totally agree with his views on the state of it and what an absolute mess Dorna are making of it. I, for one, won't be watching it this year and hopefully Dorna won't mess around with World Superbikes too much. William Hannant Via the Internet C'mon, we never said not to watch. I'll be up at 5 a.m. every time they have a Mo- toGP…. Editor. S%$t Fight III This week's Cycle News edito- rial consulting Kel Carruthers on the MotoGP rules was great. Carmelo's [Ezpeleta] taking a lot of stick. If makers like Yamaha continue to attract more sponsors, maybe Mo- toGP can get back to sensible rules as in 500cc GP era. Bruce Scholten Via the Internet S%$t Fight IV I'm finding that the more I watch MotoGP, the more I re- ally enjoy World Superbikes. Eight different manufacturers, many different winners, excit- ing races every time, and no confusing rules, so to speak. You know the weights for a twin, for a triple, for a four cylinder, and you choose the bike that best suits your style for your team. MotoGP, well, you get what you get it seems: A bike that sits in a vacuum, unchange- able all year and obsolete by mid-season. Not really a way to win races. I say hell yeah to Ducati's choice of class, and I hope their gamble pays off in a big way. They all had the choice at the beginning of the year, and it seems funny that the announcement for Factory 2 came after they decided to take this gamble. Seems to me a call from Japan to Dorna came quickly after that. Reminds me of the Doug Polen rules back in the day when they kept adding weight to the Ducati in AMA to "even" things up. Good luck MotoGP. Todd Shute Greenfield, MA Paul Bostrom Yesterday, little did I know that when I went to spend time visit- ing with Paul Bostrom, that it would be our last visit together. We will all miss him very much. When you rode with Paul you had better have your best game on because he refused to finish second. Even coast-racing down a mountain road, leading Paul with the finish in sight… all of a sudden you hear a motor start up behind you and then silence. And there he goes, coasting by you with that big grin on his face - waving. He just won't finish second. I will never forget that grin. I know you're with God now. Thanks for all the great rides, memories, and being a good friend. Bill Keys Castro Valley, CA Letters to the editor can be sent to voices@cyclenews.com.
