to the flag. In the end the gap
between them was just .2 of a
second. They were followed by a
five-rider battle for fourth that was
won by Cody Wyman.
"Celtic Racing worked real
hard to improve the bikes from
last year," said Alexander. "I won
that regional championship last
year, but my goal was to win
the National Championship and
that's why I came back. I didn't
really know what was going to
happen in the race. I was trying
to figure out exactly how big a
six-second gap was and whether
or not I could slow down a bit. I'd
see them coming in a turn behind
me and I thought, 'Well, it doesn't
seem too far.'"
Alexander repeated his fine
performance in Saturday's race,
opening a big lead and then rid-
ing conservatively the last few
laps.
