MONSTER ENERGY AMA SUPERCROSS SERIES Stewart rolled into Motor City's Ford Field after a tough outing the week before at Daytona and put a pinch on the best Super- cross riders in the world by tak- ing a dominating victory on one of the most demanding tracks of the season. The win was the Yo- shimura Suzuki rider's third Su- percross victory of the season, VOL. 51 ISSUE 11 MARCH 18, 2014 P69 Briefly... Ken Roczen had a miserable night. The former MX2 World Champion suffered a bad start in his heat and missed a transfer by one position. He returned for the semi where he got fourth and then experienced bike trouble in the main. A rock jammed the rear brake of his Red Bull KTM at the start of the main event and lost a full lap before he could get go- ing again. By that time it was all he could do to salvage as many points as he could, unfortunately he could only pick up just one point with a 20 th place. "Unfortunately, I just had some bad luck with a rock getting stuck in my brake and it ruined my night. I was able to return to racing but was a lap down and could not gain enough time on the other rid- ers. I am just hoping for better luck next week." Once again, Dean Wilson was fast- est in qualifying on the Discount Tire Racing/TwoTwo Motorsports Kawa- saki, and he was holding onto third during the early going in the 450 main. Just like at Daytona, though "Deano" started dropping back at about the 12-lap mark and ended the race in 12 th overall. "We continue to learn each week," said Wilson. "I know I have the speed to be a po- dium guy, I just need to continue to work on maintaining that speed for the full 20 laps. I'm enjoying my time in the 450SX class and look forward to next week and learning more." The Detroit course featured a few interesting sections, including the peristyle section, which took the riders up into the stands then back down after a tight and tricky turn at the top. It was reminiscent of the old Supercross races at Pontiac. It was continued on next page James Stewart captures 48 th career Supercross win at Detroit Stewart Motors
